The Power of Data

with the ability to transform the way we work and the way we live. It can be used to empower people, companies, communities, and countries to make better decisions. It can be used to reduce emissions, detect cancer, and even optimize and improve user workflows. Still, practitioners are facing real challenges in “crossing the chasm” between early adopters and reaching widespread use and value creation.

That’s why we are taking a practical approach and sharing unfiltered stories from the field at this year’s conference. All speakers will be asked to share the good, the bad, and the ugly realities of implementing AI.

At last year’s conference, we heard from multiple speakers about how they use data science to create impact and pave the way for a better world. We challenged the speakers to present how they use data to support one of the 17 sustainable development goals established by the UN.

  • “It is always a joy to attend the WiDS events, and inspiring to hear from others and see the engagement in the discussions that follow. For Oda, it has also been a great arena to present projects and concepts, get feedback and interest for a talented and diverse group of people. WiDS has helped in creating networks with peers across industries that is valuable in developing how we create value from data, also outside the events. We look forward to continuing to attend and contribute to this community.”

Nina Walberg, Head of Data & Insight, Oda

  • “As both a sponsor and participant in the Women in Data Science conference, I was humbled to be surrounded by so many brilliant minds in the field. There was a wide variety of industries represented and experiences to be shared with the community. It was an excellent opportunity to engage with and learn from one another. I look forward to next year!”

Kelsey Ozuna, Product Manager, Klaveness Digital

  • “Spoor had a fantastic day hosting a workshop on computer vision to an engaged and enthusiastic group. For us, it presented a great opportunity to connect with a diverse group of new people, communicate about our tech in an easy to understand way, and attend an event that brought our team closer together with a number of intersting topics to discuss. We look forward to continuing to support WiDS community.”

About us

Women in Data Science (WiDS) Oslo is an non-profit and independent event organized to coincide with the annual Global Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference held at Stanford University and an estimated 150+ locations worldwide. All genders are invited to attend WiDS regional events, which feature outstanding women doing outstanding work.

The Global WiDS Conference aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and to support women in the field. This technical conference provides an opportunity to hear about the latest data science related research and applications in a number of domains, and connect with others in the field.

2024 will be the eight annual event hosted in Oslo with significant and continual growth - from 40 attendees in 2017 to 150 attendees in 2019 and 650 attendees in 2020 and 2021 (digital), and 220 attendees in 2023. The attendees have diverse backgrounds coming from academia and a variety of industries with a significant international presence - in 2021, we had nearly 100 unique nationalities registered!

WiDS is a non-profit organization created by and for the data science community. This wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of our sponsors and partners, whom we are extremely grateful for.
